To mark its 270th anniversary, Moët & Chandon announces a partnership with Sotheby’s to auction part of its Grand Vintage Collection that has never before been released.
The auction will see 270 bottles of Moët & Chandon’s Grand Vintage Collection sold by Sotheby’s on 13th November 2013 in London. The partnership will offer a unique opportunity to present a selection of Moët & Chandon’s Grand Vintages to global buyers and collectors around the world.
Spanning almost a century from 2004 to 1914, the auction will feature extraordinary vintages of the 20th and 21st centuries, all of which originate from Moët & Chandon’s cellars in Epernay. Comprising over 28 kilometres, Moët & Chandon’s Champagne cellars are the largest in the world and are home to the finest collection of vintage wines.
Benoît Gouez, Chef de Cave, Moët & Chandon:
“Moët & Chandon is about sharing – sharing pleasure, history, as well as the transition of skills and values over time. The auction with Sotheby’s represents our 270 year commitment to the region and cements our heritage as a pioneering maker of champagne since 1743.
Each of the vintages chosen for the auction has a special meaning and story. It is significant that we are opening up our cellars to auction some of our Grand Vintage Collection not only to celebrate our 270th anniversary but also to outline our commitment to continue growing roots in the region for another 270 years.”
Serena Sutcliffe MW, Sotheby’s Worldwide Head of Wine:
“We have never before held an auction of this scale, with such a selection of rare and fine Champagnes from one producer. It is a truly historic range – one that offers you the chance to step into the heritage of the Moët cellars. I tasted the legendary 1914 with Benoît earlier this year and it is superlative.”
Every Grand Vintage in the Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage Collection is unique and original, the cellar master’s personal, free interpretation in service of the singular qualities of that year’s grapes.
