LVMH Group has bought their first Burgundian domain, Domaine des Lambrays, a few days back. After acquiring a few big names in fine wines like Château d’Yquem and Château Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux, this is their first move in Burgundy.

Domaine des Lambrays owns 99% of Grand Cru vineyard of Clos des Lambrays (8.84hectares), which is one of the 5 Grand Crus in Morey-Saint-Denis region of the Côte de Nuits including Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche, Clos de Tart and part of Bonnes Mares.
Former owned by a German couple of Gunter and Ruth Freund, the estates produce only 30,000-40,000 bottles of the Grand Cru red burgundy of Clos des Lambrays, and less than 10,000 bottles of Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru and Village wines as well. They also produced a small amount of highly acclaimed white burgundy of Puligny-Montrachet premier crus “Clos du Cailleret” and “Les Folatières”.  According to source, the current chief winemaker, Thierry Brouin, will remain in charge after LVMH acquisition.
